Fixing VPN and IPSec pass-through problems with Belkin N1 Vision router

A couple of weeks ago I bought the Belkin N1 Vision router and was really impressed with the design, usability and performance of it. This was until I tried to connect to my work using a Cisco VPN - it just did not work!

The specifications for the router states that it has VPN support; IPSec pass-through and PPTP. On other routers I have seen methods to enable/disable IPSec pass-through in the router configuration, but I could not locate it in the N1 setup utility. After some googling I found out that this is always enabled on the N1 Vision, duh - guess not!

So I finally submitted a support case to Belkin support (twice - one in the US and one in Scandinavia/Sweden). Quite quickly I received response on both cases and after a few checks on firmware version, IP number series etc the Swedish support gave me access to a pre-release firmware. I uploaded it to the router and within a few minutes the VPN access worked perfectly.

So if you have this problem contact Belkin support and ask for the pre-release firmware (F5D8232-4_WW_1.00.13, the latest official is F5D8232-4_WW_1.00.11), or contact me.

Nu finns en nyare firmware att ladda hem från Belkin.com. Den löste mina problem med att routern hängde sig titt som tätt.

Perfekt! Min har kört kanon på .13, men jag får väl ladda hem .15 istället.

Hi, In case anyone else finds this, Belkin fixed the Cisco/Nortel VPN issue with the Belkin N1 wireless router (Model 8232) with firmware revisions posted above. But the later wireless modem router (Model 8632) has only just had a pre-release firmware fix posted up at http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/article/?lid=enu&pid=F5D8632uk4A&aid=14328&scid=0. I've tested this with Cisco VPN client v5.00.03 and it works a treat. Cheers.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge!!!! Belkin Australia could not help me, but I used the UK support link and changed "uk" to "au" to get just what I needed to get my VPN up and running.

Glad we could help. I had the same troubles, I tried the US support but did not suceed but the swedish support helped me within an hour...

I live in Italy and i have a Belkin Vision N1 Model F5D8632-4A Version 1002ef. With firmwere F5D8632-4_WW_1.00.09, CISCO VPN connection works fine.

Had a visiting guest unable to use his Nortel VPN client through my N1 Vision (even when I tried turning the router's firewall off), and I was stumped until your article reminded me to try a firmware update. Upgrading to .15 allowed my guest to access his VPN without an issue.

Had the same problem with the VPN on the F5D8635 N+ here in South Africa. Your advice and the UK url sorted the problem out. Thanks for helping to avoid a lot of cursing and hair pulling frustration!
